If you ever wondered how McLaren might find customers for its $600,000-plus, limited-build 675LT Spider, the British hyper car manufacturer obviously had no qualms.
Well before the 497kW/700Nm mid-engined hardtop convertible goes on sale in in mid-2016, every one of the 500 to be built now has an owner's name on it – all in less than a month after McLaren started taking orders.
Weighing in at 1270kg – or 100kg less than the 650S Spider on which it based – the 675LT is a stripped down racer designed to deliver maximum performance without much regard for passenger comfort. The seats are carbon-fibre racing buckets and there's no air-conditioning.
The twin-turbo 3.8-litre V8 engine cranks out a monumental 497kW and 700Nm, enabling it to reach 100km/h in a Veyron-challenging 2.9 seconds on the way to a maximum of 326km/h.
The fully-focussed McLaren runs on bespoke 19/20-inch alloy wheels wearing special Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tyres and features a body kit comprising a 50 per cent larger active 'Longtail' airbrake, unique front splitter and new side skirts.
A titanium exhaust is also part of the deal.
No recent news has emerged about the 675LT's future in Australia, although it was reported in motoring.com.au in March 2015 that when the mad McLaren 675LT Spider comes here it will be priced close to $A620,000.
