Goldzilla Nissan GT-R arrives in Oz

One of the world's most identifiable supercars, a gold-painted Nissan GT-R, has been delivered to its owner in Melbourne this week.

Only two golden Nissan GT-Rs have been built by the Japanese company, the first at the behest of Nissan's director of excitement, multiple Olympic gold medallist Usain Bolt, and now this one, a copy of Bolt's car.

The proceeds of the sale have been donated to Bolt's charity aimed at helping Jamaican children.

The new two-door super coupe will be incredibly conspicuous on the road, it's bright gold paint work and cheeky GLDZLA (gold-zilla) custom plates likely to attract a lot of attention.

The Australian owner paid $US187,100 for the gold Nissan GT-R which at the time converted to A$177,005, only a few thousand dollars more than the existing retail price of $172,000.

Although that sounds like a bargain on paper, the car is believed to have cost close to $240,000 once the GST, luxury car tax (LCT) and stamp duty are factored in.

The new owner of the rare Nissan supercar talked up his new pride and joy's links to Usain Bolt, regarded as one of the best sprinters in history, which has been personally signed by Bolt -- in gold ink, of course.

"The Nissan GT-R just gets better and better and more refined each year, and the fact that this gold GT-R also celebrates the incredible achievements of the great Usain Bolt makes it something very special indeed," said the unnamed owner.

It is the owner's second GT-R. He bought a black version of the same vehicle just before bidding on Goldzilla in December 2012. The sale was conducted through the same dealership where he bought his first GT-R, Ferntree Gully Nissan.

It is understood the owner of the car is not a car collector and wants to make good use of the iconic Japanese coupe, which is powered by a 3.8-litre twin-turbo petrol engine.

Producing 404kW/628Nm, the GT-R is devastatingly fast with an claimed 0-100km/h sprint of just 2.8 seconds, making it one of the quickest cars in the world.

Apart from the striking gold exterior paint, the MY13 Nissan GT-R gets specially fitted 'hyper-titanium' 10-spoke RAYS aluminium-alloy forged wheels and a Bose stereo system.

Nissan Australia's managing director and CEO William Peffer was understandably chuffed the golden Godzilla is now in Australia, providing a very prominent promotional tool for the company.

"Nissan is proud to support the Usain Bolt Foundation and excited that the highest bidder hails from Melbourne, Australia," said Peffer.

Usain Bolt also had words to say on the donation of the golden GT-R to charity: "My partnership with Nissan greatly benefits the work of my Foundation. This donation will help many kids get access to better facilities, play areas and educational materials in Jamaica. I am delighted to be working with Nissan to do this".
