Coinciding with the launch of its latest-generation Eos convertible, Volkswagen has today released its most frugal Golf model yet, dubbed BlueMotion, into the Australian market.
The name 'BlueMotion' not only refers to the model, but, as Volkswagen tells us, the ethos of the entire brand:
"Blue is the corporate colour of Volkswagen and stands for the elements to be protected such as water and air; Motion embodies the aspect of forward, future-directed mobility with the goal to protect the earth's resources for future generations"
First viewed locally at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney last year, Golf BlueMotion combines Golf's usual comfort and styling with an ultra-efficient 1.6-litre turbodiesel engine for a combined economy average of just 3.8L/100km and CO2 emissions of 99g/km.
The five-door model develops 77kW/250Nm and among its many fuel saving technologies includes an idle stop/start system, multifunction trip computer – which also provides visual gear change recommendation for optimum fuel consumption – and low rolling resistance tyres.
Priced at $28,990 the all-new Golf BlueMotion is available in a single model guise and is offered exclusively with a six-speed manual gearbox.
