GOODWOOD FoS: VUHL 05RR makes its debut

Fledgling Mexican car-maker shows off 287kW road-legal racer

Mexican sportscar-maker VUHL has unveiled a track-day car that's set to rival the fastest Caterham 7 models at this weekend's Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK.

Called the 05RR, the new road-legal racer is based on the firm's existing 05 and underpinned by that car's hybrid aluminium-carbon-fibre monocoque construction.

It is powered by a 287kW version of Ford's turbocharged 2.3-litre Ecoboost engine combined with a motorsport-ready six-speed sequential gearbox.

Claimed to have a better power-to-weight ratio than a McLaren P1, the 05RR is said to hit 100km/h in just 2.7 seconds and top out at 260km/h.

Featuring a full-width rear wing and an F1-inspired rear diffuser, VUHL claims the 05RR's aero package is the result of extensive wind-tunnel testing.

Helping reduce the kerb weight to just 640kg, the 05RR features ultra-light carbon-fibre wheels.
