A lot of families are going to be drawn to the latest entrant in the VFACTS compact SUV segment -- the Great Wall X240.
The Chinese-built SUV is officially on sale now, priced at $23,990 including on-road costs. For that money, it combines a 2.4-litre petrol engine driving through a five-speed manual transmission to a four-wheel drive system with shift-on-the-fly dual-range transfer.
Information gathered by the federal government for ADR compliance lists the X240's powerplant as a fuel-injected four-cylinder engine developing 90kW of power at 5250rpm. Measuring 4.6m in length and 1.8m in width, the X240 rides on a 2.7m wheelbase at a ground clearance of 180mm. Fuel consumption, according to the Green Vehicle Guide, is 10.4L/100km in combined-cycle testing, running 95 RON premium ULP. CO2 emissions are 244g/km.
Dual front airbags, ABS/EBD and reverse parking sensors are fitted as standard, as are electrically-adjustable driver's seat, leather seat trim, air conditioning, central locking, eight-speaker MP3-compatible CD audio system and alloy wheels. The wheels measure 17x7J and are fitted with 235/65R17 tyres. Buyers can specify the X240 with an optional sunroof, priced at $1000.
Ateco is selling the X240 with a three-year/100,000km warranty, incorporating a 24-hour roadside assistance program.
