Greenfleet Australia will plant 17 native trees for every new or demo Saab model sold in a carbon emissions 'offset' agreement began this year. Saab says that it is the first car company to offset its entire range.
"The partnership with Greenfleet is a way for the Saab community to drive with a green conscience irrespective of which vehicle they choose," says Director Saab Australia and New Zealand, Parveen Batish.
According to Greenfleet, which has planted nearly three million trees since its formation in 1997, 17 native trees will absorb the greenhouse gas emissions produced by a car in one year. The trees will also help tackle salinity, improve water quality and provide essential habitat for native species.
"It is really terrific that Saab has taken this very practical step to offset the carbon emissions from their whole range of cars," says Greenfleet acting CEO Sara Gipton.
"It is so important that we all reduce our impact on the planet and Saab's initiative demonstrates how easy it is to make a positive difference."
Greenfleet is a non-profit organisation offering a program to help reduce your car's impact on the environment. Interested motorists can sign up for $40 (tax deductible), and the group will plant 17 native trees on your behalf.
Greenfleet says the trees will help to create a forest, and as they grow will absorb the greenhouse gases that your car produces in one year -- based on 4.3 tonnes of CO2 for the average car. Visit greenfleet.com.au for details.
