GT-R tweaks for MY14

When you’re on a good thing... Nissan has made only subtle changes to its flagship GT-R super coupe for the 2014 model year.

Changes just confirmed to the latest version of Godzilla include styling, interior and equipment tweaks, but no substantial modifications under the skin. Wholesale updates will have to wait for an all-new car rumoured to be released in 2015-16.

The tweaks are detailed in a product bulletin just issued by Nissan Australia. It says the new model year twin-turbo all-wheel-drive coupe features: “subtle adjustments that further enhance the performance and premium feel of the GT-R”.

“Road presence is bolstered with wider front fenders and revised front and rear LED lighting assemblies. Inside, the extended application of carbon-look trims, shorter shift gate and updated instrumentation designs work to further enrich the quality feel,” Nissan states.

The 2014 GT-R will also offer a new Crimson Blaze paint colour. The Premium Edition line-up will offer an ivory luxury trim option, while the range-topping Black Edition gets new black-gold finished Quarts RAYS alloys.

At the pointy end of the new GT-R LED lighting is featured for both high and low beams. A new highway mode for the Active Front Lighting system is claimed to offer drivers “superior visibility on winding roads and in low-light conditions”.

Indicator, side vent and front guards are also restyled for a more muscular wider stance.

At the rear the signature round taillights feature solid ring illumination in place of the “dot-type LEDS”.

Four GT-R variants are now offered Down Under. The entry-level ‘Premium’ Edition is now priced at $172,000, up from $170,800, while two Premium with Luxury Trim versions (ivory or amber red) are available at a $5000 premium. The Black Edition is priced at $182,500.

Nissan Australia is still to confirm whether the uprated GT-R Nismo model will come Down Under.
