Those hanging out for the arrival for the GWM Group’s upcoming Ora electric and Tank off-road sub-brands will be disappointed to hear the two Aussie market newcomers have been pushed back and won’t arrive until sometime next year.
GWM-Haval Australia is staying tight-lipped as to exactly when consumers can expect to see the value-driven Chinese sub-brands in local dealers, reiterating that neither has been officially confirmed for the Australian market.
“We are still keen on both Ora and Tank but aren’t yet at the stage to confirm anything about potential launch timing here in Australia,” GWM-Haval Australia head of marketing and communications Steve Maciver told carsales.
“The discussions with our head office colleagues continue.”
However, carsales understands that both Ora and Tank are on track to arrive Down Under within the next six to 18 months, even though they were both confirmed by GWM’s head office in China late last year to be coming here in 2022.
So while those plans have been delayed, Ora is still expected to offer the Ora Good Cat as its first model Down Under, while the Tank 300 is tipped to kicked things off for the off-road division.
Reasons for the delay have not been revealed, but right-hand drive Australian-spec export supply complications seem unlikely given GWM’s forecast of 20,000 local sales of existing models led by the GWM Ute by the end of this year.
“Supply has returned quite strongly for us over the past couple of months after a relatively lengthy period of under-supply,” he said.
“Our intel on supply over the coming months is positive and as such, we expect to sell in excess of 20,000 new GWMs this year.”
That predicted figure includes the Haval line-up of SUVs, which presently comprises the compact Haval Jolion and the Haval H6/H6 GT mid-sizers, while the GWM portfolio continues comprise only the GWM Ute.
GWM-Haval Australia delivered 8557 new vehicles in the first half of 2022, marking an improvement of 13.1 per cent over the same period last year.
