GWM-Haval Australia has scraped $4000 off the asking price of its 2023 GWM Ora Standard Range EV, which sees the battery-electric hatch join the BYD Dolphin (from $38,890 plus on-road costs) and MG4 (from $38,990 plus ORCs) as a sub-$40,000 model for the first time ($39,990 plus ORCs).
Pricing for the mid-range GWM Ora Extended Range has also been reduced by $2000 and now starts at $45,990 plus ORCs, while the flagship GWM Ora GT has also been made more affordable at $51,990 plus ORCs (-$1910).
GWM says the price reductions have been made possible by lower raw material costs and “other factors”, which we suspect include the ongoing Chinese EV price war being waged by BYD and MG.
It’s also taken the opportunity to bolster its local GWM Ora line-up and plug the $6000 pricing gulf between the Extended Range and GT by introducing a new Ultra variant, which at $47,990 plus ORCs splits to existing two grades on both price and specifications.
“In response to strong initial customer demand and positive dealer feedback, GWM will add a new Ultra grade to the Ora line-up,” said GWM-Haval Australia.
The GWM Ora Ultra builds on the standard kit of the Extended Range through the inclusion of a hands-free powered tailgate, panoramic sunroof, heated steering wheel, six-way power adjustable driver’s seat with memory function, heated, ventilated and massaging front seats and power-folding wing mirrors with memory function.
Power and torque from the single-motor drivetrain are rated at the same 126kW and 250Nm as the other 63kWh variants, meaning the Ultra also shares the same 420km cruising range.
The adjusted pricing and value of the new variant is made sweeter still by the inclusion of an AC home charger – valued at $1690 – in the asking prices of all current and future Extended Range, Ultra and GT orders fulfilled before September 30, but installation is not included.
“Able to be connected to single-phase power, the GWM Charging Station is configured to connect with the new GWM Ora and all Type-2 equipped EVs,” GWM-Haval Australia stipulates.
“Also featuring RFID authentication, use of the GWM Charging Station offers secure access for nominated users.”
First customer deliveries of the GWM Ora have finally taken place and all are variants covered by a seven-year/unlimited kilometre warranty.
