Hard-core Porsche 911 GT3 previewed by ad

New track-focussed version of latest 992-series 911 spotted in the background of Porsche's latest Superbowl ad

A sneaky peak of the next-generation 2020 Porsche 911 GT3 has popped up lurking in the background of the car-maker's latest Superbowl advert that was aired over the weekend.

It doesn't take an eagle-eye to spot the GT3's huge fixed rear wing, wider wheel-arches, central twin-exhaust, aggressive diffuser and racy GT3 centre-lock wheels.

Interestingly, that dominating rear wing seems to feature end plates and an additional lower duckbill spoiler.

According to rumours, the surprise sighting of the hard-core 992-series GT3 suggests it's odds-on for a reveal at March's Geneva motor show alongside the next-generation 911 Turbo.

Few details of either cars have surfaced but it's thought the next 911 GT3 will once again sport a naturally-aspirated 4.0-litre flat-six that will pump out up to 400kW.

Like the 383kW model it replaces, the new 911 GT3 could be available only with a seven-speed (or eight-speed) dual-clutch PDK transmission.

It's thought that to offset the extra weight of a pair of heavy petrol particulate filters to meet the latest emission regs, Porsche will have to be creative with weight saving measures to raise performance levels above the current car, which hit 100km/h in 3.2sec and weighed 1430kg in optional Weissach spec.

This could see a full titanium exhaust, lightweight composite panels and even magnesium wheels employed on the standard GT3 in an effort to shave precious kilos from its kerb weight.

If the rumours are true, the 202 Porsche 911 GT3 is destined to debut at the Geneva show in March ahead of an on-sale date later this year. It's thought the official teaser campaign will begin shortly.
