Mazda Australia has announced pricing for the Roadster Coupe version of its iconic MX-5. And as promised, the folding hardtop two-door sportscar has sneaked in under the $50,000 mark.
Launched officially on the Gold Coast today, the MX-5 Roadster Coupe hits local roads at $47,660 in six-speed manual trim. A six-speed Activematic auto version will also be offered at $49,835.
Just one specification will be sold. Equivalent to the 'Leather Pack' previously offered on the soft-top MX-5, standard equipment includes aircon, electric-operated folding hardtop and premium BOSE audio system.
The Roadster Coupe starts arriving in dealers next month, with full stocks not likely to lob until mid October.
The arrival of the Roadster Coupe also heralds a change in standard spec across the MX-5 range. The two-door sporty now features Dynamic Stability Control (DCS) with traction control as standard equipment across the range. Purists fear not, however, it is switchable.
With the arrival of DSC, the entry-level MX-5 is now priced from $42,870 (auto $45,045) -- up from $41,860/44,035 auto. The Touring which now replaces the Leather Pack soft-top but is identical in spec is priced from $44,730 (auto $46,905) -- an increase of $1110 also.
As an aside, according to Mazda Australia, the price difference between the Touring and Roadster Coupe is $2930 -- $10 less than the cost of the fixed hard-top offered as an accessory for the MX-5 by Mazda.
