Haval's Blue 03 SUV coupe concept made its debut at the 2017 Auto Shanghai motor show this week.
Showing off a bold new design language, the Haval Blue 03 (HB-03) looks almost production-ready and effectively previews a Sino BMW X6 rival.
The Chinese self-styled premium SUV company says the HB-03 SUV coupe concept is powered by a new hybrid engine that develops 200kW and 450Nm.
It has a super-low fuel consumption claim of 2.1L/100km thanks to a combination of 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine and lithium ion battery-powered electric motor.
But all of the cars powertrain details are academic, including its ability to drive in pure electric mode for 65km because after all, concepts are all about the design.
The man behind the HB-03's swoopy lines, Haval's design director Pierre Leclercq, reckons the new styling is "sporty, mature and full of muscle".
"In profile, it clearly exhibits the centre line of a coupe with very dynamic attitude, but with no compromise on headroom and comfort of rear seat passengers," insists Leclercq.
"The vehicle features a lot of full surfaces as our form language. There are very sexy sheet metal movements and highly technical details that show the DNA direction for Haval," he added, confirming that the concept will help shape future models.
It also features a modern interior design that also looks more production car than wacky concept design, with plausible steering wheel controls and conventional infotainment input dial.
The orange-on-black colour finish is bright and bold and the digital instrument cluster and leather upholstery also attract the eye.
It's not clear if this concept car will inspire a production vehicle in future but as one of China's biggest SUV brands, and a company that now exports vehicles globally - including to Australia - Haval will be carefully monitoring feedback.
