Haval H6 PHEV revealed

Chinese brand’s advanced new plug-in hybrid SUV produces 240kW and has 200km EV range

GWM has already confirmed the local debut of the 2022 Haval H6 Hybrid early next year, and now the Chinese brand has unveiled an advanced plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) version in Thailand that could also be in line to head Down Under.

As with many of the new models emerging from GWM/Haval overseas, the Australian subsidiary is assessing the viability of the 2022 Haval H6 PHEV, but there are no firm plans for its release in the short-term.

The PHEV emerged in Thailand alongside with the GWM Tank 500 HEV, and could prove to be both the power and efficiency king of the mainstream mid-size SUV market thanks to its 240kW/530Nm outputs and claimed 201km all-electric driving range (NEDC standard).

Not only do those outputs squash anything currently offered Down Under, but they also challenge and even beat some of the performance offerings from premium contenders like the Volkswagen Tiguan R that’s in line for launch here.

The 201km electric range is four times better than the current crop of mainstream PHEV SUVs which typically average between 40-60km on a single charge.

The powertrain responsible for these impressive numbers is Haval’s own turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine shared with the regular hybrid version, albeit with a much bigger battery and gruntier electric motor.

No definitive performance or fuel consumption figures have been released, but Haval has confirmed no less than eight drive modes and promised plenty of standard equipment.

There’s 19-inch alloys wheels, LED headlights, tail-lights and daytime running lights, a 360-degree camera, ergonomically designed seats, dual-zone climate control, black and white upholstery, wireless charging, powered tailgate, keyless entry, push-button start and a panoramic glass roof.
