Hennessey Performance has attempted to steal the soon-to-be-revealed Dodge Challenger Demon's thunder by building what the US tuner claims will be one of the most powerful Camaros ever made.
Based on the already mighty Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, the new Exorcist (Hennessey's name for its Demon rival) comes powered by the standard car's supercharged 6.2-litre V8 that has been tuned to an incredible 746kW/1310Nm.
Available with either a six-speed manual gearbox or GM's latest 10-speed automatic transmission, the US tuner says its Exorcist will hit 60mph (97km/h) in less than three seconds and complete the quarter-mile (402m) sprint in less than 10 seconds.
The extra power over the ZL1's already punchy 485kW/881Nm comes from significant under-bonnet changes that include a larger supercharger and new intercooler system. The Exorcist also gets new camshafts, cylinder-heads and a new cold air induction system. Topping off the changes, the heavily tuned Camaro comes with a new ECU.
The new Hennessey Exorcist can now be ordered from the US tuner or your local Chevrolet dealer -- but only if you live in the US.
Existing US owners of the Camaro ZL1 will also be eligible for the power upgrade, but it doesn't come cheap -- the US tuner charges $US55,000 ($A72,000).
Hennessey says it will also offer an aftermarket 'road race' handling pack that's thought adds track-tuned suspension and gripper Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres at a cost of around $A10,000.
The US tuner has also released a video of its new Exorcist showing its mighty burn-out potential.
Although the Chevrolet Camaro is not sold in Australia, it could one day be sitting in Holden dealerships, with an Aussie study of the car confirmed after the Ford Mustang’s sell-out success here.
