Hennessey reveals 6x6 Ford F-150

US tuner shows off its American rival to Mercedes-AMG's G63 6x6, based on F-150 Raptor

Texan tuner, Hennessey, has released two new images of its next creation -- a six-wheel concept pick-up truck based on Ford's latest F-150 Raptor.

Called the VelociRaptor 6x6 concept, Hennessey's wild six-wheeler comes with uprated suspension, new 20-inch wheels, redesigned front and rear bumpers, a new roll bar and an LED light bar.

Oh, and pricing 'starts' at $US295,000, or about $387,000 at today's currency exchange. That sort of coin could buy you a rear-drive Lamborghini Huracan... But it wouldn't be able to navigate the Canning Stock Route like Hennessey's monster.

Based on a 2017 Raptor crew cab pick up, the upgrade buys you 6x6 locking rear axles and under the bonnet it's thought the VelociRaptor packs the standard Raptor's 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 that in the regular pick-up truck produces 330kW/691Nm. After some typical Hennessey tuning the VelociRaptor 600 Twin Turbo model should produce around 450kW/1000Nm.

Channelling that power, if it can still cope with that level of torque, is likely to be Ford's new 10-speed automatic gearbox.

Hennessey says the boosted model will cost an extra $US22,500 on top of the price $US295,000 rig. That's big bickies in anyone's language but Hennessey seems confident of finding buyers.

"Our VelociRaptor 6x6 is pure aggression on wheels – all six of them," boasts US tuner Hennessey.

"The new 2017 Raptor is going to be one of the best all-around trucks ever built. We are excited to help take it to the next level both in terms of performance and exclusivity."

While the F-150 Raptor could be on sale Down Under in a matter of months thanks to right-hand drive conversion company Harrison F-Trucks, it's not known if Harrison F-Trucks has any plans to import the VelociRaptor 6x6.

If it does, expect the VelociRaptor to cost considerably more than the hefty $140,000 charged for a right-hand drive F-150 Raptor, particularly with prices of almost $400,000 expected in the US.
