Hennessey Special Vehicles has unleashed its new $US3 million ($A4.3m) 2022 Hennessey Venom F5 Roadster that’s claimed to be the world’s fastest and most powerful convertible.
The roadster is claimed to be near identical to the Hennessey Venom F5 coupe, save for its removeable 8kg roof.
So beneath the rear boot lies the American tuner’s mighty twin-turbocharged 6.6-litre V8 that pushes out an incredible 1355kW of power.
Combined with a single-clutch seven-speed automated manual transmission, Hennessey says its rear-drive US-built convertible will top 300mph (483km/h), although engineers claim the F5 Roadster’s theoretical top speed is actually much closer to 500km/h.
Interestingly, the 483km/h top whack is with the roof in place; no achievable V-max has been released for when driving roofless.
In the transition from coupe to roadster the hypercar’s weight increases by 20-45kg, on top of the coupe’s 1430kg kerb weight.
Since the convertible version was always planned, Hennessey says the Venom F5’s full carbon-fibre tub needed only “minor adjustments” for the roadster to match the coupe’s levels of rigidity and stiffness.
The only catch is there’s no place within the car to store the carbon-fibre roof, which comes lined with Alcantara.
The other main difference from the coupe is the Venom F5 Roadster gets a new vented glass engine cover that’s claimed to handle temperatures of up to 540 degrees Celsius as well as the forces associated with travelling at speeds above 480km/h.
No acceleration figures have been released for the fractionally bulkier roadster, but it’s expected the 0-100km/h sprint of just 2.5 seconds will remain unchanged from the coupe.
That said, the hypercar really only starts to get going well into three-figure speeds, devouring the 0-250mph (0-402km/h) dash in an astonishing 15.5 seconds.
Those performance figures, as well as its towering top speed, might take a while to surface, says Hennessey, as it won’t launch a record-breaking attempt until next year.
When it does put the Venom F5 through its paces, Hennessey will be aiming to beat the 265.6mph (427.4km/h) feat set by the previous Venom GT back in 2016.
Following its official debut at the Monterey Car Week in California, Hennessey says production at its Texas factory will begin late this year and will be limited to jut 30 units.
Pricing for each car has been confirmed to kick-off from $US3 million ($A4.3m), without personalisation.
Unveiling the Venom F5 Roadster, founder John Hennessey said: “The roadster version takes the coupe’s speed, exhilaration and awe, plus a sprinkling of respect-inducing fear, to a new, truly visceral level that brings owners closer to the Venom F5’s extreme performance.”
