The forthcoming Lexus IS 350 sedan, which is due in Australia later this year, will be powered by a six-cylinder engine boasting the highest specific output of any naturally aspirated same-class rival.
Featuring a 3.5-litre V6, the IS 350 develops 233kW of power -- or a specific output of 67.4kW per litre.
Not only is the figure the highest among its nearest naturally aspirated rivals -- which include the BMW 325i and Mercedes-Benz C300 -- but also in Lexus' home camp, the IS 350 offering the highest specific output of any petrol engine in the Lexus line up.
Complementing the athletic power figures, the IS 350 will also offer a brawny 378Nm of torque (at 4800rpm), again a class-leading figure among naturally aspirated competition.
"IS 350, along with CT 200h and other forthcoming product, will continue to grow Lexus' product range and appeal to consumers," said Lexus Australia chief executive Tony Cramb.
"IS 350 is evidence of our moves to widen our product range and close up a few gaps that exist there, with IS 350 slotting nicely between IS 250 and our performance flagship IS F.
"We have no doubt that, with its new 3.5-litre engine and features, IS 350 will be a very popular vehicle. We are just as excited about this car as our customers are."
The Lexus IS 350 will arrive in Australian showrooms in the final quarter of 2010. Pricing and full specification details will be announced closer to the launch.
