Toyota's top-selling HiLux has come in for some equipment updates, with some models now fitted as standard with six airbags.
So far this year, Toyota has sold more than 24,000 HiLux utes, which it claims is more than twice its closest rival, and hopes build on lead by adding new features and changing the prices of key models.
All HiLux SR5 models come with cruise control and tinted back windows as standard and in response to many of its rivals offering top-tier models with high spec levels, SR5 Double Cab 4x4 models adopt "sports-style" front seats and are fitted with six airbags as standard.
Toyota has improved the stereo systems of all models as well.
Entry-level Workmate and mid-grade SR HiLux models now come with single CD audio systems with USB ports and Bluetooth mobile phone compatibility, and the SR models also get a new four-spoke steering wheel with audio controls.
The range-topping SR5 models also get a higher-spec system: a six-CD multi-changer system with a colour LCD screen.
Pricing for the two important model in the HiLux range, the 4x2 SR turbodiesel Double Cab and Single Cab-Chassis, have been reduced by $3,100, priced at $32,590 and $26,590 respectively (not including government and delivery charges).
However the prices on other models have risen from between $250 for 4x2 Workmate models to $1850 for 4x4 SR5 models.
In related news, Toyota's LandCruiser 70 Series can now be fitted with a choice of two new 'Toyota Genuine' airbag-compatible bull bars.
Toyota says the new bull bars for the 70 Series LandCruisers have been "engineered and tested for precise integration with the vehicle's airbag sensors."
Available in alloy and steel, both bull bars have been designed to accommodate the Superwinch, RALLYE FF1000 or RALLYE FF4000 driving lights and CB antennae.
