Historic Winton to be livestreamed this weekend
Unprecedented coverage and some new events headline the 47th Historic WintonThe 47th Historic Winton race meet is being livestreamed this weekend and features a couple of new events in what’s quickly turning out to be a year of firsts for the iconic event as it storms towards its 50th edition.
Presented by the Austin 7 Club in association with Historic Motorcycle Racing Association Victoria (HMRAV), both days of the 2024 Historic Winton weekend will be broadcast via the Blend Line TV motorsport channel, with highlights set to be streamed for free on Facebook and Instagram.
Access to the live coverage costs viewers an $8 subscription fee – compared to the $40 and $50 adult online admission tickets being asked for Saturday and Sunday respectively – though the broadcast isn’t expected to detract from the post-COVID turnout at the track.
Spectators and viewers will be treated to the usual array of classic, vintage and period car and motorcycle racing, as well as some new events.
A special Cortina Challenge will be held on Saturday, followed by the second running (following last year’s trial) of the Tin Top Regularity on Sunday.
“A motorcycle favourite series will also start on Saturday as Indian motorcycles battle it out against Harley-Davidsons,” organisers said.
Hundreds of cars and bikes of all classic eras – produced between 1920 and 1980 – across multiple classes including open-wheelers will take to the track in 48 events.
And on display over the weekend will be the 1914 Motorcycle Tourist Trophy-winning Indian Speedway Twin, plus an Eldred Norman Double V8 Special and Eldred Norman Zephyr Special, to name a few.
Hundreds of spectators will camp alongside the venue overnight, both before and during the festival, and there will be so much going on around the country Victorian circuit there’ll be a complimentary bus service.
Winton Motor Raceway is exactly 3km long and comprises 12 turns in total, whereas the short circuit covers just over 2km and takes in 10 turns.
“The Austin 7 Club continues to enjoy our long-held association with Winton Motor Raceway and we look forward to running our historic motorsport event of cars and motorcycles again this year,” said Austin 7 Club president Len Kerwood.
Tickets are available both online and at the gate, with kids under 17 getting admitted free.
