Historic Winton to celebrate 40th anniversary

Winton Motor Raceway in Victoria will host its 40th anniversary classic car and bike motorsport event, Historic Winton, in May this year.

Over 400 historic racing cars and motorbikes are expected, covering the 1920s-1980s time period.

Billed as the 'largest and most popular all-historic motor race meeting' in Australia, events will take place over three days, with practice sessions on Friday 27 May followed by two days of weekend racing action.

In addition to enjoying its own anniversary, Historic Winton will celebrate the following milestones:

>> 110 years of Austin and Lagonda
>> 100 years of Nash
>> 90 years of Pontiac, Bugatti Type 35, Daimler-Benz, Morris Oxford Flatnose and Chrysler Imperial
>> 80 years of SS Jaguar 100, the Mercedes 260D (first diesel), MG TA, BMW 328, Fiat Topolino and Harley-Davidson 'Knucklehead'
>> 75 years of American Jeep
>> 70 years of Singer Gazelle, Cooper 500, Willys Jeep Wagon, Renault Dauphine, Triumph Roadster, Jowett Broadford Van and Vespa
>> 60 years of Berkeley Sports, Holden FE, Austin A35, Morris Minor 1000 and Go Karts
>> 50 years of Toyota Corolla, Chevrolet Camaro, Holden HR, Fiat Dino, Ford Falcon XR, Lotus Europa and Formula Junior.

In addition to the on-track action there will be several displays, including the Shannons Classic Car Park; a pre-1975 car, bike and historic commercial vehicle show; an all-makes historic motorbike show, and area for classic commercial vans, caravans, wooden speed boats, go karts and steam engines.

Spectators all have access to the competition paddock and classic vehicle owners have a dedicated spectator display car park.

Weekend passes are $55, Saturday entry is $30 and Sunday $35. Children 16 and under are admitted free of charge.
