Holden has axed its Captiva 5 SUV, but an updated Captiva 7 – now known just as 'Captiva' – goes on sale offering buyers additional five-seat variants in the larger body style, as well as the seven seats previously available.
The change streamlines the Captiva model range, with all variants sourced from the one factory in Changwon, South Korea. Captiva 5 variants were built in GM's Bupeyong facility in South Korea, where the Trax is also built.
Cosmetic changes for the Captiva (7) amount to a new grille and body-coloured front panels, complementing upgraded standard equipment and the launch of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity in the SUV range.
The range continues to offer three engine choices – 2.4-litre petrol four-cylinder, 3.0-litre petrol V6 and 2.2-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder). Developing 123kW and 230Nm, the 2.4-litre engine runs on 91 RON and returns combined-cycle fuel consumption figures of 9.3 (manual) and 9.6L/100km (auto).
The petrol V6 also runs on 91 RON unleaded fuel and generates 190 kW and 288Nm. Fuel consumption is 10.7L/100km.
Output for the diesel is rated at 135kW and 400Nm, with fuel consumption varying from 7.9 (LS FWD) to 8.5L/100km for the LT and LTZ automatic all-wheel drive variants.
The Captiva features MacPherson struts and a multi-link IRS system, rack-and-pinion steering (electrically-assisted) and vented disc brakes all round.
Three trim levels comprise LS, LT and LTZ, with the front-wheel drive five-seat Captiva LS at the entry-level point in the range, priced from $26,490 with 2.4-litre petrol four-cylinder and manual transmission. This price matches the base model Captiva 5. At $41,490, the Captiva LTZ with diesel, automatic and all-wheel drive is the flagship of the range.
The Captiva LS is exclusively front-wheel drive and the 2.4-litre petrol four is only available in this grade, but the Captiva LS also offers one diesel variant. All Captiva variants are automatics, with the exception of the entry-level five-seat model. The LT and LTZ models cannot be ordered with the petrol four or front-wheel drive. Buyers can choose between the petrol V6 or diesel for the all-wheel drive variants in the mid- and high-range levels.
Standard features across the range consist of six airbags, dual-zone climate control, electric power steering, descent control system, self-levelling suspension, leather-bound multi-function steering wheel, electric parking brake, auto-on/off headlights, keyless entry, a reversing camera, MyLink infotainment with seven-inch colour touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Siri Eyes Free and Smartphone voice control. The LS grade rides on 17-inch alloy wheels, LT comes with 18-inch alloys, and the range-topping Captiva LTZ variants are fitted with 19-inch alloys.
Additional standard features for the Captiva LTZ include: Side blind zone alert, rear cross traffic alert, front and rear park assist, eight speakers, sunroof, leather seats, heated front seats, satellite navigation and side steps.
