Holden has cemented a five-year warranty on every new vehicle it sells in Australia.
Available from July 1, the five-year offer is matched by an unlimited-kilometre count for private customers. Government fleet and rental buyers will get the same five years paired with a 200,000km cap, it was announced today.
Having toyed with a seven-year warranty promotion in the past, Holden has decided to offer the five-year deal permanently as a show “of confidence in our cars”.
Provided customers keep servicing their car with a Holden dealer, the warranty also includes five years of free roadside assistance.
"At Holden, we’re focused on offering the right products in the right segments and providing exceptional customer service,” said Holden chairman and managing director, Mark Bernhard.
In the past year alone, Ford, Renault, Peugeot, Citroen and Honda have upped their warranty coverage to five years, and manufacturers including Volkswagen are also looking closely at the issue.
Despite movement across the industry, Toyota, Mazda and Nissan don’t look likely to budge from their current three-year offerings. Similarly, the German luxury car brands are resisting change.
Conversely, other manufacturers – most notably Kia (seven years) and Hyundai (five years) – have cashed in on their long-standing extended warranties, winning over droves of customers and helping effect change in the Australian car industry.
