Holden Cruze updated for 2015

Australia's only locally-built small car gets new features and new look -- but diesel and 1.4 turbo dumped

You'll be able to pick the difference between the 2015 Holden Cruze and earlier models by the adoption of a redesigned front fascia featuring a bold split grille.

All models gain the new look 'face', but the rear end is unchanged. Entry-level Equipe models gain 17-inch alloy wheels as standard and the Equipe also gains indicators integrated in the external mirrors.

Other changes to the Australian-made 2015 Holden Cruze include the adoption of LED driving lights on SRi and SRI-V models, the latter also gaining 18-inch alloy wheels, remote engine start (to heat or cool the car before entry), rain-sensing wipers and improved comfort via suede seat inserts.

Holden has also condensed the engine range, ditching the 2.0-litre turbo-diesel and 1.4 turbo-petrol powerplants. That means there are just two engine types in the Cruze range now, the 1.8-litre entry-level four-cylinder worth 104kW/175Nm, and the go-fast 1.6-litre turbo for the SRi models, cranking out 132kW/230Nm.

GM Holden's product communications manager, Mark Flintoft, said the idea was to "simplify" the range by removing some engine types while increasing appeal with the new look and added features.

In 2014 the Holden Cruze found 18,554 buyers, or 7.9 per cent small car market share, versus 24,421 sales and 9.9 per cent in 2013. It was the fifth best-selling car in its class behind the Toyota Corolla, Mazda3, Hyundai i30 and Volkswagen Golf.

Pricing has been adjusted slightly on some models, with the range starting at $19,890, which is unchanged, for the manual Equipe model. However the Equipe auto variants have had a hefty $1500 sum carved from their sticker price by ditching the 1.4-litre turbo engine.

The range peaks at $29,340 for the auto SRi V, which like all SRi models represents a $250 price hike. The official on-sale date for the updated Cruze is January 20.
