Holden faces battery charges?

Talkback radio highlights emerging issue with Commodore batteries

Callers to Melbourne radio station 3AW have aired concerns about batteries Holden has fitted to Commodore models. The callers, taking part in Neil Mitchell's talkback program two days ago, explained that new cars purchased through Holden dealers had let them down.

According to one caller, relying on an explanation from a Holden dealer, owners leaving the car's key in the ignition, even if the engine is switched off, run down the battery charge over the course of a couple of hours.

Adding to the problem, the flat batteries allegedly require a 'deep cycle charge' at a Holden dealer. This may explain the experience of one caller to the program, who said that on a run to Queensland his vehicle had required eight roadside assistance calls along the route.

The problem has not been 'on the radar' for Holden's communications staff, but the company's Product Communications Manager, Kate Lonsdale, has officially replied to a request for further information from the Carsales Network.

"We have received reports of a number of Commodore owners having problems," Lonsdale responded.

"Where they've contacted us we've had our service and engineering teams investigate and where appropriate, fixed any issues.

"If customers do experience a problem they should call roadside assist, take their vehicle to a Holden dealer or contact our customer assistance service desk.  If there is a problem we will fix it."
