Holden factory set for sale

Buyer for GM’s Elizabeth plant selected

Holden is finalising contracts to sell its historic manufacturing site in Elizabeth, SA.

The company says the intended purchaser for the site, selected after a six-month expressions of interest process, is looking to develop a “master-planned, innovative business park”.

The outcome will provide employment opportunities for both established and new industries. The use of renewable energy will also be part of the business park’s masterplan. This isn't the first time that that there has been interest in the Holden site.

The last Holden Commodore will roll off the Elizabeth production line on October 20.

Following the end of local production and a decommissioning process for the plant (which will take until mid-2019), Holden will retain a section of the site to base a major spare parts operation.

The company has also announced a proposed heritage centre and hospitality venue, as it looks to maintain a long-term presence in Adelaide’s northern suburbs.

“A preferred investor/developer from interstate has been identified for the property based on their long-term investment strategy,” revealed Richard Phillips, Holden’s Executive Director of Manufacturing.

“They have a good performance record and ability to deliver a high-quality outcome, with willingness to work with local authorities and the community,” he said.
