Holden forum outs HSV

Popular Holden forum ls1.com.au has published photos of HSV's new VE-based hotrod

The strength of internet forums and chatrooms has come to the fore with the outing of Holden Special Vehicles’ latest and greatest – the VE-based E-Series.

Photos purporting to be a production example of the Holden hotrod arm’s latest model appeared on the popular GM forum LS1.com.au (click

for more) yesterday. The photos show a heavily winged and wheeled, white four-door that looks very likely to be the real thing.

There’s new bodywork add-ons front and rear and the car appears to feature bespoke front guards. There are unique taillights and taking pride of place are large front fender vents that resemble the E-Series model motif in profile.

HSV will officially launch the car to the motoring media this Sunday, with the Melbourne-based drive program for the E-Series scheduled for Monday.

It’s not known for sure which models will be unveiled. You can bank on a ClubSport (or equivalent) but it is unlikely the range-topping GTS will arrive until later in the year – perhaps Sydney Motor Show.

Various power figures have been bandied around for the ‘cooking’ model HSV car. LS1.com.au claims the ClubSport will boast 304kW. CarPoint’s information points to an output in the region of 310kW with much of the additional mumbo coming from cam and exhaust changes.

The GTS – when it arrives -- is tipped to feature a larger capacity version of Holden’s V8.

HSV personnel have been involved with the development of the VE and its variants for some time. Unlike previous models where the design was ‘outsourced,’ the E-Series will be the first HSV vehicle whose look and engineering have largely been carried out in concert with Holden’s in-house teams.
