Holden owners to attempt world-record cruise

Holden owners and fans will take part in a world record attempt later this year at The Bend Motorsport Park, vying for the biggest gathering of Holdens in one place.

The ‘Holden Tribute Cruise’ will travel from Adelaide to The Bend circuit on Saturday September 19, coinciding with Round 10 of the 2020 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship.

There, owners will be able to participate in a show-and-shine, as well as have the chance to do parade laps of the circuit and win prizes.

Organisers say more than 300 cars and 500 drivers/passengers have registered for the event in less than a week.

With Holden fans encouraged to participate, officials hope they can eclipse the 1200-vehicle ‘Holden dream cruise’ that took place in 2017 when the Elizabeth manufacturing plant shut down – the current world record.

And, it’s not just for Lion brand diehards. Ford owners are being encouraged to come along and show their support by forming a “guard of honour” around the formation.

Participants (owners of any road-registered Holden or Ford product) will also receive ticket and access deals to OTR The Bend 500.

“Holden rightfully occupies a very special place in South Australia’s heritage; we want to celebrate the brand’s significant history in the State by bringing owners together at [the event]”, said Sam Shahin, managing director of The Bend.

“We want to celebrate the end of an era by bringing passionate Holden owners together and quite literally fly the flag for Holden in the brand’s home state. I am confident that the wider Australian public, whether devout Holden fans or not, would want to be part of this tribute.”
