Holden to help drive Mardi Gras

Blokey Aussie car brand becomes major sponsor of annual LGBT festival

Holden will be a major sponsor for this year’s Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, announcing the news by unveiling a rainbow ute on its company Facebook page last night.

“We’re coming out… As an official sponsor of this year’s Mardi Gras!” said Holden in the opening line of its Facebook post.

The company, which is desperate to change its image as it transitions from being a maker of V8-powered homegrown sports sedans and utes to a full-line importer in 2018, was the first car manufacturer in Australia to publicly support marriage equality.

“Australians are changing and evolving, and so are we. So it’s time to show our support for the causes that we believe in,” said Holden.

Other major sponsors of the Mardi Gras include QANTAS, Medibank and AirBnB.

The Facebook post has attracted high engagement and resulted in more than 4000 Likes and 554 Shares. The LGBT community and close allies have also welcomed Holden as a corporate brand to promote diversity and inclusion.

“Be kind, we’re new to the party!” said Holden as it signed off.
