Holden to 'steal' Melbourne Motor Show

The rumour mill's on overboost, but Holden's secret concept is still secret

Tomorrow's Melbourne International Motor Show (MIMS) could be a first! The first time that despite furious digging from automotive internet and print outlets alike, barely a clue to the true nature of Holden's secret concept car showstopper has been uncovered...

Save for the fact Holden has confirmed it will have "something special" at the show, which opens tomorrow, Team Red is saying nothing. Holden media boss John Lindsay has said simply: "We're not responding to questions -- not even confirming or denying."

Usually automotive print outlets are given a two to four-week embargoed lead on important reveals so they can attempt to match the likes of the Carsales Network on important news. However, in this case Lindsay said all media outlets would have a "Le Mans start" with reporting the new car, which will be unveiled at 8.50am tomorrow.

The one snippet of news the Carsales Network has received is a possible name for the concept car -- Coupe60.

This year corresponds with a number of important Holden anniversaries including the 60th birthday of the 48-215, Holden's first locally designed car. Monaro is 40 this year and Commodore 30... So take your pick... After all, everybody -- and we mean everybody -- is guessing.

One thing's for certain, the concept car, whatever it is, is a masterpiece in PR 'spoiling'.

The first all-new Falcon since AU will be revealed to the public at Melbourne's opening tomorrow ready for production -- a real life, productionised, local automotive icon... And yet the whole industry's talking about a car that more than could be just another concept in 12 month's time.

Holden 1. Ford 0...

The Carsales Network's coverage of the Melbourne International Motor Show kicks off tomorrow morning from 9am. And look out also for all the news from the Geneva motor show next week here at the Carsales Network.
