Holden Ute for the US?

Expensive Nurburgring publicity stunt could be part of a plan to export Holden's new VF Ute to North America
GM Holden has published images on its public website of a new SS V Redline Ute lapping Germany’s famed Nurburgring, leading to speculation it is part of an upcoming North American export deal for the new VF Ute.
Motoring.com.au understands the images were released in the lead-up to a major announcement in early July, but Holden will not elaborate on why the images were posted.
“All I can say at this stage is 'watch this space’,” said GM Holden’s Director of Product Launch Communications, Craig Cheetham.
Previously, Holden admitted the VF Ute had taken to the gruelling public road circuit in April to undertake final engineering work ahead of its official Australian release this month.
It’s believed former Holden chief and now GM North America president Mark Reuss, who championed the export deal for the VF Commodore sedan to the US, was behind the wheel of the ute at the Nurburgring.
Exports of Holden’s only current US export vehicle, the long-wheelbase Caprice PPV police car, have slowed as the strong Australian currency made their pricing less competitive.
However, like the Commodore sedan-based Chevrolet SS that goes on sale in the US later this year, the top-shelf VF Ute SS V Redline could wear a sticker price big enough for it to be profitable for GM.
Launched this week in Australia, the Ute SS-V Redline costs $48,490 and comes standard with updated FE3 Ultra sports suspension, forged 19-inch alloy wheels and bigger Brembo brakes.
