Holden’s anticipated new Commodore VXR has been previewed in the form of the Chinese-spec Buick Regal GS.
Images sourced from Russia (of all places) show the clearest indication yet of what the Commodore SS replacement will look like when it arrives early 2018.
While there is no confirmation, industry sources suggest the new, fully-imported replacement – powered by a 3.6-litre V6 sending drive to all four wheels – will be called the Commodore VXR.
The Regal images shown follow similar themes of an earlier rendering released in May. Large front air intakes, sportier bumpers, Continental tyres and red brake calipers are among the changes over the largely four-cylinder Commodore range.
Inside, meanwhile, the interior is treated to a leather interior and premium surface treatments on the dashboard.
Illustrations released this month of Opel’s all-wheel drive Insignia OPC provide yet another pointer to our incoming Commodore flagship. We've even driven the Euro-spec model.
Under the bonnet, the car’s 3.6-litre V6 will produce 230kW and 370Nm, well shy of the current V8 SS’ 304kW/570Nm outputs.
The fully-imported next-gen Holden Commodore is now in production at Opel plants in Germany and will go on sale in Australia in February 2018, despite GM’s sale of Opel to the French PSA group.
