It was the smash hit Australian-made film of 2022, Baz Luhrmann's Elvis amazed audiences worldwide. The historic biopic captured the bygone eras of America which included an array of vehicles that Elvis Presley owned and drove over his lifetime.
Up for grabs at an upcoming Lloyds Auction in Australia is the 1953 Chevrolet Pickup used in the film, which is a replica of the vehicle Elvis drove in his early years. The 1953 Chevrolet pickup truck was custom-built for the film and is said to be in great condition with a faux aging patina look added for effect.
After his High School graduation in 1953, Elvis Presley took a job driving a truck delivering supplies for Crown Electric. During this time, Elvis learned more than how to drive a truck, he also honed his songwriting abilities during his time on the road. Even though Elvis embraced his new job, he always knew music was the way he wanted to go.
Elvis had an audition with a legend in the music industry, Eddie Bond, but it did not go down too well. Bond told Elvis to “Stick to driving a truck, you’ll never make it as a singer.” The rest is history...
“This is a fantastic opportunity for all movie buffs to own their own piece from an iconic movie everyone knows and loves,” said Lee Hames, Chief Operations Officer for Lloyds Auctions.
“Imagine driving and owning the vehicle that Austin Butler drove in the Elvis film, this opportunity doesn’t present itself every day, so bidders need to get in quick,” continued Hames.
Also on offer at the auction is a Back to the Future inspired DeLorean DMC-12 conversion.
“This vehicle is ready to get up and go and is sure to be a head turner, decked out with some of the highest quality props and made to be almost an exact replica from the Back to the Future film,” said Lee Hames.
