Honda has pulled the drapes off its Honda e:N2 concept at the Fifth China International Import Expo in Shanghai, which paves the way for the Japanese brand’s next-generation all-electric e:N Series models.
Featuring sharply creased lines, simple body surfacing, ultra-thin LED headlights and arrow-shaped daytime running lights that run along the leading edge of the front fender and bonnet, the angular e:N2 concept is said to lend its styling cues to both a production sedan and SUV.
It’s based on Honda’s new e:N Architecture F, which has been created from the ground up for future EVs.
The Japanese car-maker promises all future e:N Series models will come with “outstanding vehicle stability and crisp handling”.
There’s no pictures yet of the e:N2 concept’s cabin, but Honda says the new platform enables plenty of space plus a “clean and uncluttered digital cockpit” that will allow owners to enjoy “intellectual exhilaration”.
The e:N2 will also debut the latest-generation Honda CONNECT operating system that should see it come with cutting-edge infotainment.
Earlier this year Honda said it was lining up the launch of 30 EVs in the coming years to ensure that by 2030 it will be producing two million battery-electric cars each year.
Out of those 30, 10 will be launched in China alone by 2027.
As part of its offering, Honda will develop small, medium and large platforms.
The smallest architectures will underpin kei-cars for the Japanese market from 2024 before being expanded to include small cars for markets like Europe, which will no doubt include a small SUV.
A large platform will underpin a full-size EV for North America in 2026, while at least two sports cars are also planned.
A third platform will be sourced from General Motors that will help Honda rapidly ramp up the number of EVs it makes globally. The first will be rolled out in 2027.
Honda will also co-operate with Sony, which has its own standalone EV model plans including a pick-up and two sports cars.
By 2040 Honda said it will have fully transitioned to an all-electric car-maker.
Back in China, Honda already sells the e:NS1 and e:NP1 SUVs as part of its joint-venture with Dongfeng Honda and GAC Honda.
