Honda expands enviro guidelines for suppliers
Manufacturing is going green, with Honda laying down guidelines for sustainabilityHonda's procurement processes are set to benefit from a new set of 'green purchasing guidelines' to help minimise its environmental impact in Japan.
Organised in cohorts with the company's supplier network, it represents the next step up in a concerted sustainability effort the company says "achieved significant results" in 2008, which cut carbon emissions from suppliers by an average 13.5 per cent and landfill waste to zero.
Honda says its green purchasing policies have reverberated through its supply matrix in proactive recycling activity with the help of shared supplier guidelines and mutually agreed standard recycling methods.
In 2008, it says in a statement, more than 10,000 used moulds -- about 1,410 tonnes of metal -- were recycled through the initiative.
More than 400 suppliers -- 99 per cent of its total Japanese supply matrix -- was certified compliant with ISO 14001 environmental management standards.
