Honda Australia has named the five dealers that will showcase and sell its NSX hybrid supercar.
Expected by many to have a price-tag close to or even exceeding $400,000, the NSX goes on sale Down Under later this year. It is built in a purpose-built factory in the USA at a rate of less than 10 cars per week.
The five Australia dealers are: Yarra Honda (VIC); Scotts Honda (NSW); Austral Honda (QLD); Nordic Honda (SA); and Burswood Honda (WA).
Honda says a number of the dealers are already holding expressions of interest in the NSX. Customer inquiries at other Honda dealerships will be directed to the five “Authorised NSX dealers”, Honda stated.
A pre-production NSX went on display at Yarra Honda in Collingwood (Vic) this afternoon.
The NSX is unlikely to sell in anything approaching mass market numbers, yet there is significant hype surrounding it.
“We expect the NSX to be a very exclusive car. It will play an important role as a halo car for the brand,” Honda Australia Director Stephen Collins told motoring.com.au.
“And as a technology and design statement, it represents the pinnacle of Honda automotive expertise. It’s already gained rave reviews in other markets,” he said.
The mid-engined two-seater NSX is powered by a 3.5-litre twin turbo V6 combined with three high-performance electric motors – two driving the front wheels. Honda has quoted 0-100km/h times of less than 3.0sec and a top speed of in excess of 300km/h for the NSX.
