Honda refreshes Insight

Affordable hybrid hatch upgraded for improved fuel efficiency and appearance

Honda has announced a new model-year update for the Insight hybrid hatch, comprising new looks, improved equipment and even lower fuel consumption.

The revised Insight can be picked from last year's model by a new grille, restyled front bumper and LED DRLs (daytime running lights). Tail lights have been redesigned and the spoiler fitted to the liftback tailgate is thinner for improved visibility. Two new alloy wheel designs are shod with low-rolling resistance tyres for lower fuel consumption. Honda designers have also tweaked the wiper and its motor on the tailgate, and the revised side mirrors now feature indicator lights.

With Carnelian Red and Premium White added to the selection for the new model year, the Insight can now be ordered in any one of five colours. Alabaster Silver, Crystal Black and Milano Red are carried over from the previous model year.

Interior design has received some attention as well, with a new box and armrest for the centre console, new gauges and instrument binnacle, plus revised headrests for the front seats and different seat trim throughout the car. Changes to the rear seats and headlining have freed up 20mm of extra headroom in the rear.

Added equipment includes Bluetooth connectivity with controls on the steering wheel (VTi) and a leather gear knob for the VTi-L.

In addition to fitting the low-rolling resistance tyres and an electric fuel pump, Honda has worked on engine, transmission and aerodynamics to achieve an even better fuel consumption figure of 4.3L/100km — a 6.5 per cent improvement on the earlier figure of 4.6L/100km. CO2 emissions have been reduced also, needless to say, with the Insight now posting a figure of 103g/km.

Pricing remains $29,990 for the VTi or $33,490 for the VTi-L, based on ordering the car with non-metallic paint.
