Honda updates CR-V

Fresh look, more features and lower price headline updates for compact SUV

In a bid to turn around its 2009 sales slump Honda has introduced an updated CR-V for 2010 and slashed the price. Sales of the Japanese brand's compact SUV were down almost 50 per cent last year as the competition continues to increase in the market.

The new for 2010 CR-V gets revised bumpers, a new grille section, altered exterior mirrors and new alloy wheel designs.

Inside there are new door handles and interior surfaces with better fabrics and plastics in use. There is also a new interior colour scheme.

Safety is a major area of improvement with full length curtain airbags now available in the base model, meaning front, side and curtain airbags are now standard across the full range.

The redesigned mirrors are part of Honda's bid to improve NVH levels that also includes extra sound proofing in the engine bay and the cabin.

Suspension has been changed too, to improve ride quality and comfort.

The Sport model will now roll on new seven-spoke alloy wheels while the Luxury gets a new five-spoke design. The Luxury model also earns automatic headlights and wipers as part of the upgrade.

Honda has also added two new accessory packs for the CR-V range, both priced at $2699. The 'Active' pack includes Bluetooth, side steps, roof racks, deluxe floor mats, cargo protector tray, chrome exhaust tip, side window visors, door sill garnish and dust/pollen filter. The second pack is the 'Modulo Sports' which adds side steps, front skid plate, rear skid plate, tailgate spoiler, Sports grille, chrome exhaust tip and chrome mirror covers.

There are also two new exterior colours -- Urban Titanium and Habenero Red.

All these changes come at a lower price, with Honda cutting the manufacturer's list price for each model.

The range now starts at $30,990 for the base-level manual, down from the MY09 starting price of $32,990.

The Sports Auto pricing begins at $38,790 (down from $42,290) and the Luxury Auto is priced from $42,790 (down from $44,790).

Metallic paint is a $475 option across the range.
