Honda ups CR-Z price and spec

Facelifted 2013 CR-Z range culled to just one model as Honda consolidates slow-selling hybrid coupe line-up

Honda has announced an upgraded 2013 CR-Z with fresh styling, more power and equipment, and a $3500 higher starting price.

A single MY2013 CR-Z model grade is now available from Honda dealerships across Australia, priced at $38,490 plus on-road costs for the six-speed manual, with a CVT automatic also available.

Previously two CR-Z variants were offered, with the entry-level Sport manual priced at $34,990, the Sport auto costing $37,290 and the flagship Luxury auto (upon which the 2013 CR-Z is based) priced at $40,790.

The move follows slow sales of Honda’s unique hybrid coupe, which was launched in Australia in 2011, found just 370 customers in 2012 and has attracted only 11 in the first three months of this year – down almost 90 per cent.

New-for-2013 details, as first revealed at Paris motor show last September, are headlined by an upgraded 1.5-litre petrol-electric drivetrain incorporating a new Plus Sport button and the move from a nickel metal hydride battery to a more powerful and compact lithium-ion battery.

Liberating more engine power and electric motor assist, the S+ button can be used ECON, Normal and Sport modes.

The result is 100kW of power and 190Nm of torque (between 1000-2000rpm) in manual form -- up from 91kW/174Nm -- while the automatic version offers 99kW (at the same 6600rpm as the manual) and 172Nm over a wider 1000-3000rpm rev range – up from 91kW/167Nm.

Fuel consumption increases by 0.3L/100km for both versions – to 5.0L/100km for the CVT and 5.3L/100km for the manual.

New design elements include a revised front bumper and grille, LED tail-lights with a blue accent, new rear diffuser, two-tone 17-inch alloy wheels and, inside, new LED lighting and white trim stitching.

There are also two new exterior paint colours -- Northern Lights Violet and Polished Metal – to go with the pre-existing Crystal Black, Milano Red and Premium White hues.

Because it is based on the previous Luxury specification, the 2013 CR-Z comes standard with leather trim, a panoramic glass roof, reversing camera and satellite-navigation.

“With a new look, a host of new features and more power, the CR-Z is a great proposition for our customers,” said Honda Australia Director, Stephen Collins.
