In 2021, camping and road trips are all the rage especially with youngsters who missed out on the relaxed hippy #VanLife era of the '60s and '70s. German toymaker Playmobil has taken a #VanLife classic and is bringing it to a whole new generation of car and camping lovers in the form of a miniature Volkswagen T1 Camping Bus.
The attention to detail in their collaboration with the Volkswagen is incredible with the toy based on a genuine 1962 T1 Camping Bus called ‘Henrik the Red’ from the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ collection.
Most of the characteristics of the original van have been brought across to the mini-me version too through the V-shaped front end with a red VW logo, rounded roof, split windshield and removable roof racks.
The roof section is removable allowing you to see in close detail how authentically designed the interior is. Just like the original, the miniature offers a folding table with two seats and a sink with a refrigerator.
The benches with iconic 1960s check pattern can be converted into a sleeping area for two people. The side doors can be opened as well, one door includes a shelf for food and the other a hinged shelf and mirror. Under the bonnet, the engine is easily recognisable as the classic 4-cylinder boxer.
The Volkswagen T1 Camping Bus playset comes with 74 parts and comes complete with two people figurines so you can pretend it is you enjoying a much-deserved weekend camping trip away.
The Playmobil Volkswagen T1 Camping Bus playset is available online for around $100. It’s not the first time the classic VW has been given the toy treatment, LEGO has been a big fan of the van having previously transformed it into small and life-size recreations.
