China’s Geely Auto has released fresh details of its second all-electric model built under its fledgling Zeekr premium brand that has western markets such as Europe, the UK and Australia in its sights – the 2023 Zeekr 009.
Beyond the imposing styling, the luxury six-seater wagon has epic power at the top end of the line-up, the dual-motor powertrain producing 400kW and sending the 2830kg Zeekr 009 from 0-100km/h in a claimed 4.5 seconds.
The 009 also features an enormous 140kWh battery, enabling a driving range as long as 822km on the Chinese test cycle, which is more lenient than the WLTP standard. The figures are impressive nonetheless.
Based on Geely’s SEA (Sustainable Experience Architecture) platform that will underpin future Volvo models, the Zeekr 009 is also claimed to have torsional rigidity that’s best in class.
Designed by ex-Audi designer Stefan Sielaff at Zeekr’s design centre in Gothenburg, Sweden, the big 009 wagon features a huge illuminated metallic grille, N-shaped LED daytime running lights and full-width LED tail-lights.
It sits on huge 20-inch wheels and has the option of self-levelling air suspension and MagneRide adaptive dampers.
The 009 measures 5209mm long, 2024mm wide and 1867mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3205mm.
The cabin has six individual seats placed in three rows, with the centre and third rows accessed via twin sliding doors.
There’s a large infotainment system up front, plus an optional 15.6-inch fold-down rear screen for passengers in the second and third rows.
Other tech includes Zeekr’s latest autonomous driving technology, with the 009 incorporating seven cameras, four surround-view cameras, 12 ultrasonic radars and one long-range radar.
In China, the Zeekr 009 will be priced from 499,000 Chinese Yuan, which is around $106,500 in Australian money.
Geely has previously announced that it’s launching Zeekr in Europe next year, with the 009 now set to join the Zeekr 001 mid-size crossover.
As carsales has reported, multiple sources have confirmed that Geely has been hunting for a distribution partner in Australia and has the intention of setting up shop here in 2023-24.
