Speaking with Melbourne teacher Bronwyn, you’d think she was the next Tesla spokesperson. Instead, she assures me - “I just love my car."
Bronwyn’s love is so great that the 61-year-old recently chose her “ruby red” EV over a date.
“He saw my Tesla parked out the front of his house and told me that he’s not one to try and keep up with whatever is the ‘in thing’.
I told him, I’m not subscribing to the Tesla because of that, I’m doing it to save money,” Bronwyn says. “Needless to say, I didn’t see him again after that evening.”
For Bronwyn, her deep appreciation for her Tesla, a car she’s now been driving for nearly a year with Origin’s salary packaged EV Subscription wasn’t always on the cards. Instead, her previous car, a Mitsubishi Lancer – once owned by her father – wasn't just her trusted mode of transport but it also held a special place in her heart.
“I was very emotionally attached to the car, but I always said when it gets to 17 years, I will get a new car.”
True to her word, when 17 years ticked over last year, Bronwyn began researching, trying to establish which car would take the driving reigns. While she had a strong preference for a hybrid vehicle due their cost efficiencies, she was a bit hesitant about using an EV.
“After Origin came to my work to talk about their EV Subscription, I thought I’d try one for a few months so I could make an informed decision myself.”
“I looked at a variety of EV options through Origin- Teslas, BMW, BYD, MG, Kia, Toyota, and Polestar electric vehicles – and decided on a Tesla.
After six months, I enjoyed it so much that I decided to upgrade to the newest, 2024 model using the longer-term contract salary-sacrificing package. That’s what I drive now, and I love it,” she says.
With Origin’s EV Subscription Salary Packaging Program, employees can trial an EV on a flexible month-to-month subscription. Their EV Subscription plan offers employees no lock-in contracts and only 30 days’ notice to cancel or swap?EV models1, giving them the freedom to test EV models without the commitment. Or if they fall in love with their EV (like Bronwyn did), they can keep it long-term. There’s even the option to make an offer to purchase the EV after continuously subscribing to the same EV for three years2.
Plus, there’s also an EV Subscription option for businesses wanting to trial EVs too. Origin’s 360 EV Flex Plan offers an all-inclusive3 and cost-effective4. EV business subscription. Under this subscription, all vehicle running costs are wrapped into one simple monthly repayment# making business budgeting a breeze. Origin even has a dedicated team of EV consultants, project managers and installation specialists to support each business as they make the switch to EVs.
Perhaps most importantly though, an Origin subscription packages allow customers to choose a car that best suits their needs - which for Bronwyn, who spends at least two hours each weekday on Melbourne roads, travelling to and from work – is an easy, safe, and enjoyable car to drive and look after.
“I work full time and drive a lot. I wanted a car that I felt really secure in and I love this car because it basically drives itself,” she explains.
Charging her EV has also been straightforward.
“At home, I just find it so easy. I drive it into the garage and plug it into the garage wall. I have it set to charge between midnight and 6am because that is when my cheaper tariff is - and then away I go the next day.”
Financially, Origin’s subscription packages offer great peace of mind not just with fuels savings but in other areas too.
“Because of salary sacrificing, there was potential tax savings, and it was the best way for me to purchase a new car,” she explains.
“I know that I don’t have to pay anything out if I want to cancel. My money is still in my bank, I also don’t have any car-related bills now: the road service, insurance, and maintenance are all part of the subscription3. ?It’s so easy, the payment just comes out of my salary, I don’t have to think about it,” says Bronwyn.
Her favourite thing though? The driving. And when it comes to driving her Tesla, Bronwyn says that it is the additional features of the car that help make the experience so pleasurable.
“I love the heated seats and steering wheel. And when it’s hot, the cooling seats are just great and the double-glazed windows in the 2024 model make road noise non-existent,” she says.
Bronwyn also finds it reassuring that Tesla’s security functionalities allow you to monitor activities around your vehicle when it’s parked and locked, detecting and altering you to suspicious motion.
“At night I can feel safe going to my car in a car park and if anyone has hit my car, it will record it,” she says.
With Bronwyn a fan of both Origin’s subscription service and her Tesla, she says that she will continue with her subscription and “most likely end up buying the Tesla out.”
