•5 Jun 2024Going green doesn’t have to mean making a compromise. Nor does it have to rely on big budgets.
The all-new MG3, Australia’s top-selling light hatch at the time of publication (VFACTS April 2024 data), is proof of that.
Now available with an advanced hybrid system, the sharply styled MG3 is perfectly primed for the electric transition, especially if you don’t have off-street parking or easy access to a charger.
It also means you’ll never have to muck around with bulky charge cables or worry about where you can next charge.
Instead, the MG3 Hybrid+ has all its fuel-saving smarts on board, making it the perfect city hatchback for busy people looking for a car that will save them money every time they get behind the wheel.

From the innovative brand that also sells the HS +EV (Plug-in Hybrid) and the carsales Car of the Year-winning MG4 all-electric hatchback, comes an advanced hybrid system that sets new benchmarks for around-town efficiency.
MG Motor Australia and New Zealand CEO Peter Ciao said the all-new MG3 is an exciting milestone for the iconic brand, with the newest iteration bringing all of MG’s core principles to the forefront.
“The MG3 has been redesigned from the ground up and sets a new standard for hybrid and small petrol vehicles in Australia,” Mr Ciao said. “MG has brought together a brilliant mix of affordability, range, and quality for Australian drivers in the all-new MG3 range.”
The compact and high-tech 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine teams to a potent 100kW electric motor to make a combined 155kW.
The MG3 Hybrid+ also packs some serious punch, boasting a claimed 0-100km/h in just eight seconds!
That’s the sort of performance previously reserved for hot hatches, and it delivers the sort of fun-to-drive acceleration for which MG is renowned.
But it’s also impressively fuel efficient, with the all-new MG3 Hybrid+ boasting an impressive combined-cycle fuel economy of just 4.3L/100km. The MG3 Hybrid+ also sets a benchmark in its category with CO2 emissions of a paltry 100g/km, while kerb weights across the range are also modest, at 1298kg (Hybrid+ Excite), 1308kg (Hybrid+ Essence), and 1199kg (MG3 petrol).

Better still, the MG3 never has to be recharged.
The hybrid system, which boasts an advanced 1.83kWh lithium-ion battery, cleverly draws its energy from the movement of the car.
Press the brake pedal and the MG3 feeds kinetic energy into the hybrid transmission where it turns a motor generator to create electricity.
Drivers can tailor the MG3’s response with a choice of Eco, Standard and Sport drive modes, while the car itself automatically utilises any of eight Hybrid Operational Modes (shown below) that determine the optimal mix of electric and petrol drive to deliver the right blend of performance and economy.

“The all-new MG3 Hybrid+ promises impressive fuel economy without the environmental concerns of pure combustion power,” Mr Ciao said. “And because their batteries are small enough to be charged by the engine, you never have to plug them in.
“If you don’t have a driveway or you live in an apartment or if you’d rather not plug in a charging cable at the end of each journey, our all-new MG3 Hybrid+ makes perfect sense for people looking for a stylish and tech-savvy yet affordable car.”
Drivers can tailor the MG3’s responsiveness with the choice of three driving modes – Eco, Standard and Sport. No matter how you like to drive, the all-new MG3 is sure to deliver.
Simple, easy and effective – all while being fun to drive.

Of course, with a reputation for innovation, the high-tech thinking beneath the bonnet also permeates other aspects of the new MG3.
Both the Excite and Essence variants come packed to the brim with the latest technological features to enhance every drive around town.
On the Excite model you’ll find a class-leading 10.25-inch HD infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7.0-inch cluster screen with all essential driving information, plush fabric seating, and a six-way adjustable driver seat.

Or choose the Essence model – with its leather-look seats, projector LED headlights, sunroof and built-in satellite-navigation – and you also get iSmart, which uses a smartphone app to allow you to communicate with the car remotely and see its location and status. You can lock or unlock the car directly from the phone and even flash the lights to help locate it in a carpark.
The MG3 range also gets the latest safety and driver assistance systems, including blind spot detection, forward collision warning with autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist and emergency lane keep assist, intelligent speed assist, rear cross traffic alert and, on the Essence variant, a 360-degree camera.
All of which makes living with the new MG3 Hybrid+ safe, as well as easy and enjoyable.

Really, though, it’s the technology beneath the skin that makes living with an electrified vehicle so easy and makes the MG3 Hybrid+ the perfect eco-friendly new car.
With CO2 emissions of just 100g/km, the all-new MG3 is helping assist in the low-emissions charge. A 1.83kWh battery allows for an extensive electric-only driving range which significantly boosts the overall efficiency of the car.
“With Australia’s New Vehicle Emissions Standards set to kick into effect from 2024, the new MG3 just got better with lower-emissions driving as well as uncompromised quality, efficiency, safety, and technology, all at a great price,” Mr Ciao said.
Whether you’re looking for comfort or confidence, the all-new MG3 has you covered.
