Just when you thought there wasn't enough room for another pumped-up ute, Holden Special Vehicles has announced a new version of its eye-catching SportsCat ute is available for sale.
The manual version of the HSV SportsCat is $62,490 and the six-speed auto will set you back $64,690, not including on-road costs.
It may have an unoriginal name but the HSV Colorado SportsCat 'Look Pack' gets all the visual goodies of the range topping SportsCat+, which means the tough bonnet bulge, wheel arch extensions, unique grille and front bumper, hard tonneau cover and 18-inch forged alloy wheels.
Power comes from an unmolested version of the Holden 2.8-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine (147kW/500Nm). The 3500kg towing capacity is retained.
Designed to appeal to a growing number of buyers who want to stand out in the dual-cab ute world, options will also include the rear sail plane, for an extra $1300.
Fitted with HSV sports suspension the SportsCat Look Pack rides high and the tough look gets a little more pepper with the fitment of Cooper Zeon LTZ Sports all-terrain tyres.
The HSV SportsCat Look Pack gets the upgraded interior of the SportsCat+, which adds SV Sports seats finished in Jasmine leather and Windsor suede.
There's also a new orange exterior paint colour, dubbed Crush.
However the AP Racing brakes and de-coupling rear anti-roll bar will remain part of the SportsCat+ package, a $66,790 proposition for the manual. The six-speed automatic transmission is a $2200 option on all models.
HSV has identified a new niche for its SportsCat range and according to HSV’s managing director, Tim Jackson, the new model gives the Holden Colorado-based ute more scope.
"The rugged styling cues of the SportsCat+ model have been exceptionally well received by customers and HSV dealers alike. The introduction of the “Look Pack” now provides buyers with three distinctive SportsCat specification and pricing alternatives to suit their work and lifestyle requirements."
HSV also offers the SportsCat R model, although that is limited to 100 units.
The Melbourne-based special vehicle group has also indicated it is considering developing a high-power version of the SportsCat to rival the Ford Ranger Raptor dual-cab ute.
There's also the potential of importing a V6-powered desert dueller based on the US-spec Chevrolet Colorado ZR2.
