HSV E Series II
HSV is staying tight-lipped on its new E2 range, despite purported photo leaksHSV's range of upgraded sedans and wagons, dubbed the 'E2' range, will be officially unveiled in early September, when the company claims it will debut "More firsts for Australian production cars".
Photos that purport to show the new HSVs were published at various websites this week. They show a new look front end and a bonnet which resembles the ducted part Holden developed for the US market version of the Commodore, the Pontiac G8.
HSV has been tipped to offer a switchable bi-modal exhaust system (in response to feedback that criticised the soft exhaust note) in the new E2 range. The Carsales Network believes a paddle-shift option could be on the cards for auto models and make up one of HSV's claimed 'Australian firsts'.
The autobox used in HSV's V8 sedans shares its origins with the North American Corvette, which already offers a paddle-shift system. The system is tipped to be used on top-end HSV models such as the GTS.
The Carsales Network questioned HSV's Group Manager for External Affairs, Simon Frost, on the details of the E2 models. While Frost confirmed the timetable for the E2 rollout, he would not comment directly on the changes HSV would debut.
Frost deflected questions regarding the recently published images.
"Pictures and commentary purporting to show the final design and specification of HSV's E-Series 2 should be treated with caution," he stated.
