HSV will move into the fast four arena this year -- it's official.
Holden hot shoe brand managing director, Phil Harding, announced the decision at the Brisbane International Motor Show this week. HSV's first hot four will be a version of the Astra VXR Turbo that has taken the British performance market by storm.
Dubbed the HSV VXR Turbo Down Under, the vehicle will be built by by Opel’s performance car partner OPC in Germany. HSV claims it is a unique build for Australia.
Harding confirmed HSV had been looking at the VXR for some time and worked closely with partners Holden, Opel and Vauxhall to secure the car for the local market. The model will be extremely important to the performance car maker as it seeks out new niches as sales of large cars continue to decline.
HSV says its dealers have already reported orders taken as far back as October last year, when the VXR Turbo first appeared as a concept at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney.
The VXR Turbo will be available in one model only. Final pricing is yet to be released; however, Harding said it would be "under $43,000".
