HSV GTS quickest ever

HSV’s 6.2-litre supercharged V8 GTS is the quickest Australia production car in history – and it’s official.

The Walkinshaw-owned Holden performance offshoot today confirmed 0-100km/h acceleration figures for the GTS. It claims a 4.4sec sprint for both the six-speed manual and automatic versions of 430kW 740Nm GTS.

HSV has also pencilled in a 12.3sec standing quarter mile time for the GTS.

The HSV’s 0-100km/h time matches that claimed by BMW for its M5 and betters Jaguar’s claim of 4.6sec for its upcoming XFR-S. AMG’s new E 63 S is 0.2sec faster over the sprint, but fastest of all in the segment is Audi’s RS6 wagon at 3.9sec, no doubt thanks to its quattro all-wheel drive.

motoring.com.au has compared the vital statistics of the HSV GTS and five potential competitors in an infographic released today. The infographic not only shows the local product holds its own in acceleration terms, but also performs very well on the global stage in terms of bang for your bucks.

Not only does the GTS better all on our list in terms of local pricing, it also betters all but one of the other super-sedans in their respective home markets. Using the BigMac index, only Cadillac’s CTS-V is more affordable...

What HSV is not declaring just yet is the GTS’s gazetted fuel consumption.

The CTS-V, with which GTS shares its LSA supercharged petrol V8, is rated at over 15.0L/100km on the Combined cycle. We’d suggest the HSV will also be in this region. Compared to the frugal Germans this would be off the pace.
