HSV has today released details of its new Holden Colorado SportsCat Series 2 dual-cab 4x4 ute range.
The two-variant pick-up range remains based on the Holden Colorado LTZ and priced from $62,490 (plus on-road costs).
But the Series 2 upgrade includes a range of additional appearance and equipment highlights that HSV says improve the model’s value equation as it struggles to keep pace with sales of the Ford Ranger Raptor.
New for 2019 is a revised naming structure that sees the SportsCat V replace the SportsCat Look Pack and the SportsCat SV take the place of the SportsCat+.
Both are defined by a rugged and distinctive front fascia with gloss black grille, fascia and lower inserts; prominent bonnet bulge; LED fog lights and dual recovery hooks.
Both variants ride on a new-look 18-inch six-spoke forged alloy wheel wrapped in Cooper Zeon LTZ Pro Sports All-terrain tyres.
Both SportsCat variants feature HSV Sport Suspension with bolstered spring rates and thicker strut braces up front, and revised dampers to offer a “more performance-based handling characteristic”, HSV says.
SupaShock suspension remains optional and, in combination with the larger tyre profile, the SportsCat’s ride height is lifted by 45mm, increasing ground clearance to 251mm. Track increases by 30mm.
SportsCat SV variants include a decoupling anti-roll bar at the rear and four-piston AP brakes with 362mm rotors up front.
“Class-leading stature and stance, combined with bold graphics, sum up the design direction we took with the initial SportsCat program,” said HSV Chief Designer, Julian Quincey.
“We wanted our design to look strong and purposeful, yet beautifully integrated. The enhancements we’ve introduced with Series 2 accentuate that theme and deliver a road presence that’s truly distinctive and unique.”
In response to customer feedback, the SportsCat Series 2 range is also more strongly identified by increased HSV badging on the rear and side of the tub.
The tub itself is topped by a hard tonneau cover and fitted with a load-rail system with quick-release latches, and a rugged alloy sports bar.
Additional HSV markings are evident throughout the cabin, which now includes Windsor suede HSV Performance seats and a leather-wrapped sports-profile steering wheel.
The SportsCat cabin continues to offers an 8.0-inch infotainment array with sat-nav, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, digital radio (DAB+) and a seven-speaker sound system, plus rain-sensing wipers, remote start, climate control and reversing camera.
Safety aids include forward collision alert, front and rear parking sensors and seven airbags.
Power remains unchanged with Holden’s 2.8-litre Duramax turbo-diesel under the bonnet. Making up to 147kW/500Nm, the unit is coupled to six-speed manual or automatic transmissions and drives all four wheels via a two-speed transfer case.
Braked towing likewise remains unaltered at 3500kg, with HSV quoting a maximum payload of “approximately one tonne”.
“A major focus of the initial SportsCat program was enhancing the off-road performance of the vehicle whilst at the same time, setting a new bench-mark for on-road driving dynamics,” said HSV Chief Engineer, Trevor Barallon.
“Normally you can’t achieve one without compromising the other. But with the revisions we’ve made to the vehicle’s suspension, combined with the AP Racing brake package, the rear de-coupling anti-roll bar and our exclusive wheel and tyre package, we believe we offer a truly unique driving experience.”
Production of the 2019 Holden Colorado SportsCat by HSV Series 2 begins on July 8.
