HSV's swansong Aussie range priced from $80K

Final homegrown HSV range celebrates three decades of Aussie V8 performance

HSV's ballistic GTSR W1 might be grabbing the lion’s share of attention today, but there’s a separate celebration going on at HSV.

The Clayton crew has introduced its final Australian-made Holden Commodore-based range and, to mark three decades of homegrown performance, the all-supercharged ‘30 Years’ line-up arrives in dealerships this month (February), beginning with the Maloo R8 LSA from $79,990 (plus on-road costs).

The MY17 GEN-F2 range covers HSV’s ClubSport R8 LSA, ClubSport R8 Tourer LSA, Maloo R8 LSA, Senator Signature and GTS models.

All barring the GTS are enhanced by a 410kW/691Nm version of HSV’s Chevrolet-sourced supercharged LSA Generation IV all-alloy V8 engine, while the GTS’ output is virtually unchanged with 435kW/740Nm. A unique engine build plate is fitted to each vehicle.

HSV has also tweaked the bi-model hi-flow exhaust system of its MY17 range. The change sees the exhaust opening earlier in the rev range to create a richer soundtrack from lower speeds.

As part of the MY17 enhancement, all models now receive torque vectoring (by brake) as standard. Other enhancements include new bonnet vents, new front and rear fascias, a new range of alloy wheels, revised suspension and 30 Years badging, floor mats, sill plates and rear-window decal.

Stylistically the MY17 30 Years range is differentiated by matte black accenting on the alloys, with Senator Signature models now featuring the previously optional 20-inch SV Rapier forged alloy wheel design.

Optionally, the range is available with a newly introduced SV Rimfire wheel. The light weight double five-spoke design is half an inch wider than offered previously at 20x9.0-inch (front) and 20x10.0-inch (rear).

All 30 Years variants are offered as standard with HSV’s Tremec-sourced TR6060 six-speed manual transmission and optionally with a heavy-duty GM 6L90E six-speed automatic transmission with Active Select and paddle shifters ($2500).

HSV’s 390mm front, 372mm rear rotor six-piston AP Racing brake package is also available optionally ($3495) on all models except GTS. So too are three additional paint colous — Spitfire (lime green), Son of a Gun (deep grey), and Light My Fire (burnt orange) — which takes the count to nine.

Driver assistance and safety technology includes automatic park assist, reversing camera, front and rear parking sensors, head-up display, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, auto headlights and wipers, and six airbags.

Creature comforts include dual-zone climate-control, leather upholstery (heated on Senator Signature and GTS, and powered on all models excluding Maloo), nine-speaker BOSE audio (six-speaker on Maloo and ClubSport Tourer variants) and sat-nav.

The range is further identified externally by unique LED daytime running lights, quad exhaust outlets, and LED tail-lamps (excluding Maloo).

“The performance and styling enhancements we’ve introduced with the ‘30 Years’ range, coupled with the adoption of exclusive anniversary content, are a tribute to five important models that have helped shape HSV,” enthused HSV managing director, Tim Jackson.

“These vehicles are designed to enhance what is already a great value proposition, and we look forward to offering our loyal fans a unique opportunity to be part of our final range of the Zeta platform.”

Jackson said that HSV had already received more than 800 pre-orders for its MY17 range, which also introduces GTSR and GTSR W1 flagships.
