Huge field forecast for Bay to Birdwood

Organisers of annual classic car and motorbike event have eased eligibility restrictions for 2015

This year's Bay to Birdwood classic vehicle event is promising to deliver a very large field of entrants.

According to the organising committee's new chairman, Mal Hyde, the field will be capped at 1750 vehicles, and entry is open to vehicles built between 1956 and December 31, 1978. Hyde says too that this year's event will stay with the modified route pioneered last year. Running 70km between Barratt Reserve in the Adelaide suburb of West Beach, and finishing at the National Motor Museum in Birdwood, the event is anticipated to draw a crowd numbering up to 70,000.

"We have listened to the feedback provided by entrants in last year's "Run" event who enjoyed the modified route and we will use it again this year," said Hyde, as quoted in a press release.

"We are also excited to announce that this year the eligibility date has been extended to vehicles manufactured up to 31 December 1978.

"We are committed to delivering a wonderful iconic South Australian event for motoring enthusiasts, local communities, families and tourist.

"With a cut off of 1750 vehicles allowed to enter the event we are encouraging vehicles owners to get their entries in quick so they don't miss out!"

The event is scheduled for Sunday, September 27, and the cars and bikes will be flagged away by Adelaide Grand Prix starter Glen Dix. Entries close August 8, and forms can be downloaded from the event website.
