Huge spec upgrade for flagship Genesis G80 sedan

New model year brings $13K Luxury pack as standard for 3.5T AWD, amid other range-wide updates

The flagship 2023 Genesis G80 3.5T AWD sedan is now $15,009 more expensive than the 2022 version following a significant specification upgrade for the new model year and, as such, it carries a new name – the Genesis G80 3.5T Lux AWD.

For 2023, Genesis has made the previously optional Luxury Package part of the flagship G80’s standard equipment list, meaning the Korean brand’s answer to the BMW 5 Series now comes with more than $13,000 worth of extra gear, hence top-shelf G80’s new price of $116,200 plus on-road costs.

Now included is a dual-screen rear entertainment system, 18-way power-adjustable front seats with massage functions, Nappa leather upholstery, power-adjustable heated and ventilated rear outboard seats, powered rear sunshades, a rear wireless charging pad, 12.3-inch digital cockpit, tri-zone climate control, intelligent front lighting system, open-pore wood trim, heated steering wheel, acoustic laminated rear door glass and a powered rear sunshade.

The G80’s active safety and driver aid suite has been stepped up too, with remote smart parking assist, smart parking assist, forward attention warning, parking collision-avoidance assist and more parking sensors also included in the pack and therefore now standard.

But the upgrades don’t stop there – all 2023 G80s feature new rear brake calliper covers to make them look more elegant, plus a redesigned Genesis Integrated Controller on the centre console.

These upgrades follow similar changes made to the related Genesis GV80 large SUV last year, and add an extra $2009 to the starting price of the four-cylinder 2.5T variant (now $87,200 plus ORCs).

No changes have been made to either of the G80’s powertrains for the new model year, meaning the base model still delivers 224kW/422Nm courtesy of its 2.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, while the flagship twin-turbo 3.5-litre V6 continues churning out 279kW/530Nm.

Both units are paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard, driving the rear and all four wheels respectively.

Genesis Australia says deliveries of the updated G80 have already begun, however, final spec and pricing details of the ‘2.5T Sport Lux’ variants are still being finalised.

How much does the 2023 Genesis G80 cost?
2.5T – $87,200 (+$2009)
3.5T Lux AWD – 116,200 (+$15,009)
* Prices exclude on-road costs
